Libra or Virgo? You decide...

I’ve brought up the difference between Tropical and Sidereal astrology before–Tropical being what most mainstream and pop astrologers used, based on a set map of the sky and astrological seasons from a couple thousand years ago vs. the actual sky as it changes through time, which is where Sidereal placements lie. I like to look at both to get a full picture of the energy and themes available at any given moment. For many of us, seeing our Sidereal chart for the first time after learning the ins and outs of our tropical chart can be a bit jarring–suddenly my beloved Scorpio rising shifts to Libra, my Taurus moon to Aries–but the more you sit with and explore, it the more you can see how things start to make sense. We all contain elements of all signs and elements, after all, and it is how they work together that shapes who we are and how we navigate life.

I also usually recommend checking out Sidereal to people who don’t feel their Tropical birth chart makes sense to them, or to astrology sceptics who are open to it. It’s the same as what I say when teaching tarot: we learn multiple systems and methodologies to expand our understanding and give us the full picture, a full arsenal of interpretations to pull from rather than a narrow window that only shows us one thing.

Today’s full moon is in Libra in Tropical astrology, but if you look up, you’ll see it nestled in Virgo’s hand. Both signs ask us to pay a little extra attention to the earthly realm: Libra through our relationship to beauty and pleasure, Virgo through practical action and curiosity. To me, Venus-ruled Libra is the most earthy air sign and Mercury-ruled Virgo is the most airy earth sign, and I find their energies work well together. For a full moon in Libra/Virgo, take some time to consider the following:

• What routines do you have in place around self-care and pleasure, or how can you create some?

• When was the last time you learned a new skill just for fun?

• Could your closet do with a clean-out and refresh to fit more of your authentic style?

• Does your space reflect the way you want to feel, and/or does it feel good to be in your home?

This full moon is also known as the Seed Moon, making it the perfect time to set or revisit goals and make plans for all of the things you want to grow over the rest of Spring and into Summer before the darkness of Autumn and Winter descent. Use the following tarot spread to check in with yourself.

Start by pulling out The Empress card from your deck, symbolising your inherent power of creation and ability to tend to the garden of your life. Then, shuffle and pull four cards:

Card 1: the seeds waiting to be planted

Card 2: what I can compost to fertilize my goals

Card 3: how the garden of my heart needs to be tended

Card 4: the growth waiting for me
